Ad network market share, September 2026: who gained and lost publishers

Mediavine, Ezoic and Raptive hold about 60% of all publisher listings across the 21 networks we track, and in September Ezoic lost several hundred sites. These are the month’s numbers for every one of them, from a daily record of their sellers.json files that exists nowhere else.

6 October 2026 · 5 min read

Every ad network that pays publishers keeps a public list of them — a file called sellers.json. We read 21 of those files every day and log each site that appears or disappears. This is our ad network market share report for September 2026: how many publishers each network carries, which networks gained and lost them, and which notable sites moved.

Ad network market share, September 2026

Market share here is each network’s share of all publisher listings across the 21 networks at the end of the month. A site listed by two networks counts once for each, so the shares describe where publishers’ ad relationships sit, not a count of unique sites.

Sites listed in each network’s sellers.json on the first day of September 2026 and the first day of the following month. Ordered by size at the end of the month.

“Added” and “removed” compare two dates, not every change in between. Networks often drop a site and restore it a few days later; a site that left and came back within the month is counted in neither column.

Is Ezoic losing publishers?

In September 2026, yes: its list shrank more than any other network’s. Ezoic started the month with 8,413 listed sites and ended with 7,914, a change of −5.9%. It added 126 and removed 625.

A removal means the site disappeared from the network’s file and stayed gone for several consecutive daily checks. Most often that is a publisher leaving. Sometimes it is the network tidying out sites that left long ago, or dropping sites that stopped meeting its terms. The file does not say which, so read a large removal count as “this network’s list shrank”, not as a verdict on why.

Which ad network gained the most publishers?

Mediavine. It went from 8,640 to 8,661 listed sites (+0.2%), adding 51 and removing 30.

Sites that switched ad networks in September 2026

Leaving one list and joining another within weeks is the clearest sign of a publisher changing networks. It is rarer than the headline numbers suggest: in September 2026, 7 indexed sites made a move we could see from both ends.

Most sites that leave a network do not turn up on another of the 21 we track. They may have moved to a network outside our list, gone to direct ad sales, or stopped running ads.

Why this record exists nowhere else

sellers.json files are overwritten in place, and the Internet Archive holds no history of the big networks’ files. Unless someone reads them every day, a site joining or leaving a network leaves no trace. We started logging on 27 July 2026, so every monthly figure here is measured, not estimated. To check a single site, search it on the home page; for how the files work, see ads.txt and sellers.json explained.

Questions about September 2026

What is the largest ad network for publishers?

By publisher listings, Mediavine, with 8,661 sites at the end of September 2026 — 22.1% of all listings across the 21 networks we track. Mediavine, Ezoic, Raptive together hold 60.1%.

Which ad network gained the most publishers in September 2026?

Mediavine, with a net change of +21 listed sites (8,640 to 8,661). The figure compares the network's sellers.json file on the first day of the month with the first day of the next.

Which ad network lost the most publishers in September 2026?

Ezoic, with a net change of −499 (8,413 to 7,914). A removal from sellers.json usually means the publisher left, though networks also prune old or non-compliant entries, and the file does not record which.

How often do websites switch ad networks?

Less often than the turnover suggests. In September 2026, 890 sites were removed from a network's list, but only 7 of them appeared on another tracked network within 45 days.

Where does this data come from?

From the sellers.json files that 21 publisher ad networks publish, read daily since 27 July 2026. A site counts as removed only after it has been missing for several consecutive checks, and a day on which a network’s file looks broken is never counted as a removal.

Counts cover sites in our published index. Entries we leave out — dead or parked domains, homepages we cannot read, single pages on shared platforms, duplicate editions of one site — are left out of both the start and end figures. Every figure on this page is read from our own index when the page is built, and refreshes on a weekly cycle — so the numbers move as the data does. Method and evidence rules: coverage & method.
